8:30 AM-12:00 PM, Monday-Friday
Spanish grammar
and Spanish conversation classes at four (4) different levels,
from beginner to advanced. Guarantee of no more than ten (10)
students per teacher.
AFTERNOONS:
3-4:30 PM, Monday & Wednesday
Classes in
Dominican history and culture. (Presented in both Spanish & English.)
Classes cover the histories and cultures of the Taínos, Spaniards
and Africans who, together, have created such a dynamic "criollo"
people, Dominican folklore, foodways, religion, healing, both
folkloric and popular music and dance, Carnival and other traditional
celebrations, Haitian-Dominican relations, arts and artisanry,
and the island's economic busts & booms, including sugar cane,
tobacco, the Free Trade Zones, and tourism.
AFTERNOONS:
2-6:00 PM, Tuesday & Thursday
Historical
and cultural excursions (bus transportation provided) to various
sites on the Caribbean coast and in the Capital. We'll tour the
Zona Colonial of Santo Domingo (the oldest European city in the
Americas), the Botanical Gardens (ranked among the best 10 in
the world), the Columbus Lighthouse, the National Aquarium, beautiful
Tres Ojos Park, the cave of Las Maravillas with its thousands
of ancient Taíno drawings, La Caleta with its ancient Taíno cemetery,
the ruins of a 16th-century sugar plantation, the Museum of Dominican
Man, Sammy Sosa Plaza, Altos de Chavón, the Cerámica de los Hermanos
Guillén... and much, much more.
EVENINGS:
8-9:00 PM, Monday-Thursday
Dance classes
to the hip-swaying beats of merengue, bachata, and salsa. Learn
all the latest steps! Afterwards, stay and dance as late as you
want, but remember there's class in the morning.
