The SAS Summer Camp and Summer Sports Interchange requires a 1 to 4-week commitment in one session from July 10 th to August 4th, 2017. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old at the time of the camp, with the parent permision. Every volunteer will able to participate in others SAS programs

Our Volunteer Program gives students, teachers and qualified individuals the opportunity to work directly in SAS's Programs and CCTUR GUANIN. INC sponsored schools. The summer camp was developed for children aged 1 to 05 years old that are critically in need of academic help, with many being one or more levels behind in school. Volunteers work side by side with Dominican staff in a group effort that crosses language and cultural barriers to promote the exchange of ideas, strategies and methods in teaching and activities.

Volunteers develop specialized educational programs that focus on self pride, respect and peace education. Most children entering the camp can neither read nor write. With many having previously failed in public schools, the camp provides an opportunity for children to learn about their environment, culture and peers through experiential learning and educational excursions. Most of the children are discovering and developing respect for their community and themselves for the first time.

The goal of the Guanin Camp/Sports Interchange is to train the next generation of innovators, leaders, change makers, and social entrepreneurs—the young people who will help solve the greatest challenges of the 21st century.

In the DR you’ll explore concepts and develop skills that will help you to think independently, effectively manage situations, and more easily navigate interpersonal experiences throughout your life—preparing you for college and beyond. You’ll do this by:

•Developing a personal portfolio that tells the story of your life—an autobiography that explores your passions and strengths, your dreams and aspirations

•Journaling your experiences while on the program to analyze the meaning and purpose of your life

•Analyzing case studies of young leaders who have become change makers by solving critical social problems

•Applying the skills and concepts you learn in class to real-life scenarios you’re facing every day during your service project

Volunteer as a Summer Camp Counselor in the Dominican Republic! Spend 1 or more weeks in the DR teaching children sports, arts & crafts, writing, reading, and other activities. We invite you to be part of our SAS Summer Camp and Summer Leadership Academy for the 2017

The summer camp program for children aged 1 to 05 years old, supplements general educational needs and offers extracurricular hands-on activities that engage children in their education. Children are divided into age-appropriate groups and assigned counselors to maintain a 4:1 student to teacher ratio.

Summer Camp is held from 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. During these hours, campers rotate between five 50 minutes periods of instruction in one of six subject areas:

Academic Tutoring Arts and Crafts Music and Dance Sports and Recreation Science and Nature and Life Skill

With a 15 minutes break for breakfast and a 30 minute break for lunch. For children who are behind, this is their only option to catch up. For those who are ahead, the camp provides a welcome challenge. And for everyone aged 1-5, this camp provides an experience that can steer their future lives in a more positive direction.
