Medical & Premed & Summer Camp
Volunteer Opportunity

In addition to our community volunteers, Guanin Summer Camp also welcomes pre-med, nursing, and public health students who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in community health and outreach.

This program allows students to combine community service, youth engagement, and basic medical outreach in a rural Dominican community.

Participants will work alongside our local team supporting both the Summer Camp activities for children and community health initiatives.

What Premed Volunteers Will Do

Premed and health volunteers may participate in:

  • Assisting in our community medical clinic

  • Supporting basic health screenings

  • Participating in home visits with community members

  • Helping with health education activities for children

  • Assisting with public health awareness programs

  • Supporting activities during the Guanin Summer Camp

This experience provides valuable exposure to community medicine, global health, and public health challenges in underserved communities.

Each year, the camp serves approximately 150 to 300 children between the ages of 5 and 13 from the community. For three weeks, children participate in activities that promote education, creativity, leadership, and healthy development.

The program runs Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and includes:

  • Sports and recreational activities

  • Arts and crafts

  • Reading and educational games

  • English conversation

  • Leadership and teamwork activities

  • Health and wellness education

Thanks to the generosity of volunteers and supporters, the camp is completely free for children and their families.

Community Leadership

The goal of the Guanin Summer Camp and Community Leadership Program is to help develop the next generation of innovators, leaders, changemakers, and social entrepreneurs—young people who will help address the challenges of the 21st century. During your time in the Dominican Republic, you will explore leadership concepts and develop skills that encourage independent thinking, teamwork, and problem solving.

Volunteers and participants engage in real-life community experiences that help strengthen communication, adaptability, and intercultural understanding. Throughout the program, volunteers are encouraged to journal their experiences as a way to reflect on their personal growth and better understand how they can become stronger community leaders in their own lives and careers.
