Student Services is a Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Organization that provides access to and accommodation for the on-going development and research programs that have been implemented in the impoverished community of La Piedra, Dominican Republic, for nearly 20 years. These medical, dental, nursing, educational, cultural, sports, community assistance, and other community improvement programs promote professional, academic, and cultural exchange and mutual benefits among high school and university students, professionals, church groups, and other volunteer groups seeking to lend their skills and services with the aim of aiding those who have had far fewer opportunities in their lives as rural residents of mixed Dominican and Haitian ethnicity in one of the poorest countries in the developing world. Note that La Piedra has the highest poverty index in Santo Domingo Province.

Student Services exists to promote volunteer visits that combine service work and cultural immersion to further cultivate and aid the unique programs offered by Fundación Centro Cultural Guanín (“Guanín”) for the development of the men, women, and especially the children of La Piedra and its surrounding impoverished communities of Dominican and Haitian residents.
Guanín’s mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment in and around La Piedra, where men, women, and especially children can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life.
